The Computer Science& Engineering department at RNS Polytechnic is committed for creating a community of students and faculty that reflects the diversity of the world we live in, contributing to educational excellence and a dynamic campus environment. Our goal is not only to teach students, how to use current computer applications, but rather to educate them so that they understand how these applications work and can design and build the computer applications of the future. The syllabus encompasses a broad and complete curriculum that covers the "big ideas" of computer science from hardware to software and from theory to application.
With highly qualified, trained and dedicated teachers who are responsible for the overall academic growth, the department excels in the teaching-learning methodology and has a good academic track record. The Department of Computer Science was established with a vision to provide IT knowledge, managerial skills and technical advancements and hence to address the demanding needs of IT industries and R&D sectors.
The department has well equipped laboratories with Linux and Windows Operating Systems and equipped with the latest technology. All the advanced technical facilities is provided to the students for their knowledge upgradation. Labs are networked with a 100 Mbps Local area network. The internet lab is equipped with 2 Mbps leased line connection which is available to all staff and students at free of cost. The lab consists of software's such as Eclipse, Selenium, Xamp servers and Animation software's are available. In addition, as a matter of social awareness, a familiarity with professional issues in Computer Science and Engineering including ethics, issues related to the global economy and to emerging technologies is discussed through webinars and seminars by a group of intellectuals.
Diploma in Computer Science & Engineering is a course of 6 Semesters at duration of 3 years. In first two semesters one will study 6 subjects each including theory and practicals. In later course from 3rd to 6th, each semester includes 7 to 8 core subjects including practical.
In first year (1st and 2nd Semester) the curriculum provides students with a foundation in basic science, mathematics, and the humanities. Written and oral communication skills is emphasized and developed throughout the program. Also, team project work and an appreciation of the ethical and professional responsibilities of an engineer is given in this program.
Some of the more recent developments in computer engineering include digital and microcomputer applications, digital signal processing, image processing, telecommunications, computer architecture, electromagnetic compatibility and computer vision. These areas are emphasized along with digital system design, embedded systems design, operating systems, and other more conventional subjects in computer engineering. Extensive use of the computer as a tool for mathematical analysis, design, data analysis, and instrumentation is emphasized. The repetitive nature of the design cycle and the need for simultaneous documentation and development are emphasized through team project work
SSLC / X pass is the minimum eligibility criteria for doing Diploma in Ceramic Technology. A full time Diploma in Ceramic engineering is a 6 Semester / 3 year course.

In Karnataka after completing Diploma there is 10% reservation for each course to get lateral entry to engineering. So after 3 years of diploma they can join directly to 2nd year (3rd Semester) of Engineering.
